[Johannesburg, 1st May]

The Middle East Africa Research Institute (MEARI) is proud to announce its official launch as a new think tank dedicated to investigating, analysing, and engaging with issues arising from the interactions between the Middle East and Africa. This strategic initiative aims to address areas that often receive insufficient attention in public discourse, thereby contributing valuable insights and resources to policymakers, decision-makers, and the public at large.

MEARI’s mission is to shed light on crucial developments within and between these two regions, which hold significant geopolitical, economic, and cultural importance in today’s world. By leveraging its unique set of insights and resources, MEARI aims to provide high-level, quality information that enhances society’s understanding of the complex and ever-evolving dynamics within and between these regions.

“We are thrilled to introduce MEARI as a platform for robust research and dialogue on Middle East and Africa affairs,” said Benji Shulman, Executive Director at MEARI. “Our goal is to create a bridge between these regions and the global community by offering in-depth analysis, policy recommendations, and valuable perspectives on key issues.”

MEARI will produce comprehensive reports, policy briefs, and articles on a wide range of topics, including international relations, economic development, security, migration, human rights, and cultural exchange. Through expert-led research and collaboration with stakeholders, the institute seeks to foster informed discussions and drive meaningful change.

In addition, MEARI looks forward to facilitating dialogue and collaboration among academics, experts, policymakers, and the public. By engaging with a diverse audience, MEARI aims to promote a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the Middle East and Africa, fostering solutions for a more connected and peaceful world.
